This Is Not The Truth

‘This is not the Truth’, I first came across this sentence at the Psychosynthesis Education Trust and it really resonated with me. Those at the Trust were teaching the work of Roberto Assagiolli, a visionary psychotherapist and philosopher, in my opinion, but that is only my opinion and my particular Truth. His writings speak to my Soul but may not speak to another’s.

After all, what is the Truth? Can anyone see another’s Truth?

The dictionary describes ‘Truth’ as:

1. Conformity to fact or actuality

2. Reality; actuality

3. The reality of a situation

4. A statement proven to be or accepted as true; such statements considered as a group

5. Sincerity; integrity

6. Fidelity to an original or standard

7. Theology and philosophy that which is considered to be the ultimate ground of reality

My feeling is that the Truth is a very personal thing depending on an individual’s perception and an individual’s processing of a particular situation. We’ve all come across two individuals describing the same situation yet having differing explanations of it. I know that in conflict there are always differing truths, two sides to every story, etc.

Looking at the photograph of the Scottish Highlands, my truth is a feeling of incredible natural beauty captured in the moment, stillness and a quality of light that inspires me, but another’s truth may be that the scene is bleak and cold with no hope, making them want to withdraw.

My Truth is ever evolving and is a different one to everybody else as no-one other than me can live in my inner word. No one else can feel what I do, of course they can empathise and have a similar understanding but their Truth will always be their own, not mine.

After all, our consciousness is personal and individual and therefore so is our Truth. As our consciousness evolves through our everyday experiences so too will our Truth, if we allow it.
